There’s less then a month left before the summer activities at Fernie Alpine Resort come to a close (Sept. 2nd), but that doesn’t mean that there’s any less action!  Coming up Augsust 9-11th, 2013 is the 2nd annual Koocanusa Wakesurfing Challenge!  The event, which is Western Canada’s national qualifier, will be stop #9 in the qualifying rounds for the 2013 World Series of Wakesurfing.  With plenty of action, this event promises to be a hit with both spectators and participants alike!

For those unfamiliar with the sport, wake surfing is a growing sport where participants literally “surf” the wake of a boat with specialized surfboards.  Using the Centurion Enzo 244, a large-wake boat driven at a slower speed, wake surfers are able to pull themselves into the boat’s wake and then drop the rope and surf – just like an ocean wave!  Athletes are judged on their tricks and style, with the winners qualifying for the World Series.

The event will be held in Gold Bay on Lake Koocanusa, just an hour drive south of our Fernie Hotel.  This is a great day trip from Fernie and promises to be an action packed day on the lake!

With only a few weeks left for summer activities at Fernie Alpine Resort, you’ll want to be sure to make the trip!  Come enjoy world class mountain biking, zip lining, aerial park, hiking, and more!  Fernie’s epic winter activities are offset by incredible sunny summers, making it truly paradise for the outdoorsy.
