Fernie Sled Drags Is Racing Like You've Never Seen

You may have been out to the races at some point in your life, but you’ve probably never seen races like these. Held during Griz Days Weekend, the Fernie Sled Drags is an annual tradition that’s not to be missed.

If you want to see how drag racing is done in Canada, you absolutely must get to the Fernie Sled Drags. It’s everything you’d expect from drag races... but on snowmobiles. It’s snowy, messy, loud, and more fun that you can imagine. This year’s event takes place on March 2 from 8am to 4pm at the Fernie Demo Derby on Railroad Ave. The races begin at 11am.

Riders race their modified sleds on a prepared track. Those who finish with the fastest times in each heat category win bragging rights and cash prizes. The crowd can get in on the excitement too by purchasing raffle tickets ahead of the races. The draw will take place on race day and the lucky winner gets to take home a FSA Arctic Cat z120. Raffle tickets are $20 a piece and can be purchased at Ghostrider Motorsports or trailheads.

Admission to the drag races is $10 per person. Kids 14 and under get in for free, so it’s a great event to take the whole family to. Food services will also be on hand during the event, so you won’t go hungry if you decide to make a day of it.
