Fernie Lions Set To Serve Up A Smashing Good Time At The Demolition Derby

Who doesn’t love some adrenaline pumping, car crunching fun on a hot summer day? The Fernie Lions Demolition Derby is an annual Labour Day tradition and it’s bound to be a ‘smashing’ success again this year. The action is set to take place on September 2 at the usual site, just past the Fernie Golf Course.

As always, attending the event not only gives you a fun day out, but the money raised goes toward funding the people of the Elk Valley. Proceeds from the demolition derby are used to help kids, seniors, families in need, and disabled people in the area.

On the big day, the gates open at 11 am. Prices for the day are quite reasonable, which makes it a great family event. Tickets for adults are $10 and the youth/senior/student rate is just $5. Kids under 10 are admitted for free.

Of course, there’s more than just car smashing going on here. There will also be a concession and refreshments on site. A gigantic 50-50 draw is set to take place at some point during the day. All in all, there are over $4000 dollars in prizes to be won.

For over 40 years the Lions Club has been working to put on this big event. It takes over 100 committed volunteers to bring everything together and many of those helpers have been coming out year after year for practically the entire derby’s run.
