Fernie is definitely an outdoorsy community and the 12th Annual Fernie Mountain Film Fest is a celebration of that rugged spirit. The festival is dedicated to filmmakers who put the focus on topics such as the environment, mountain communities and examining the world at large.

The festival will shine a spotlight on outdoor focussed films. A wide range of topics within that category will be explored through film. Subject matter will include rock climbing, remote communities, eco-travel, and preservation of delicate ecosystems. A full movie lineup listing is available on the film festival website.

The festival takes place on February 22 and 23 and will run from 7 pm to 10:30 pm each night at the Fernie Community Centre. Tickets are currently on sale online and can also be purchased at the College of the Rockies. Prices are $15 per night or $25 for an all-access pass. Kids age 15 and under get in for free, so it’s a great event to bring the whole family to.

Of course, what would a festival be without food and drink too? The Mountain Social is a much-beloved part of Fernie Mountain Film Fest and with good reason. The social features a range of culinary offerings from local restaurants. There will also be some spectacular beer from Fernie Brewing Company to wash it all down (as well as wine and water).

Popcorn will be served up during the films and there will be prize draws done along the way. Attendees also get the chance to check out some special guest speakers.

Anytime you’re in the area and are looking for amazing accommodations in Fernie, look no further than the Fernie Stanford Resort. Nestled in a spectacular alpine setting, we have everything you need to recharge and soak in all that Fernie has to offer.
