Fernie: 5 Fabulous Events to Look Forward to

CrossFit, biking, running or roller derby… No matter what your passion, you’re sure to find a way to celebrate it in Fernie, BC…
1. Fernival, April 14
Grab a silly costume and prepare for some serious fun, because Fernival is Fernie Alpine Resort's closing weekend celebration. There’ll be plenty of skiing and snowboarding, as well as ‘Raging Elk Pedal Paddle’ relay race; lots of free concerts at the ‘Party on the Plaza’; and the infamous Coca Cola Slope Racer competition.
2. Festivus CrossFit Games, April 21
How seriously do you take your cross fit? Not too seriously? Then ‘Festivus’ - feats of strength for the rest of us – could be for you. There’ll be novice, intermediate 45+ masters athletes & individual competition programs. This one isn’t for RX athletes or fire breathers.
3. Spring Bike Blitz & Mud Muncher Kids’ Race, May 19
Kick-off to the Fernie Mountain Biking Season with this fabulous barbecue social, bike swap and kids’ bike event. Taking place at Elk’s Hall, this is a great opportunity to meet Fernie Mountain Bike Club members and to learn all about weekly rides and special events.
4. Snow Valley Slam, June 1 – 3
Prepare for some fast roller action at the Avalanche City All Stars annual roller derby extravaganza! The team is currently ranked at number 17 out of Canada’s 194 teams – so don’t miss the chance to see them in action.
5. The Lone Wolf Race, June 16
The Lone Wolf is a new trail running challenge in Fernie, BC. It’s a simple, looped race – but it has a twist. All of the racers start together on the hour as a pack and need to finish the loop within the hour. When the next hour strikes, the race starts all over again, in the opposite direction. The goal? To complete as many loops as you can. It’s a great lesson in fuel management.
Located in the very heart of BC’s recreational playground – the North Okanagan - Fernie Stanford Waterslide Resort is a great accommodation option in one of Canada’s favourite ski resorts. Featuring spacious rooms and suites and cozy private condos, the property is located right on the beautiful Elk River and is just minutes from the ski hill and year-round outdoor adventure.
