Things To Do
Truly an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, the small and lovable town of Fernie lies nestled in the Elk Valley area of the East Kootenays, close to the B.C./Alberta border. Known for its incredible ski and snowboard conditions during the winter and spring seasons, there is no shortage of fun things to in Fernie all year-round. Our Summers are getting more and more popular with our perfect location close to the US border, right on the Famous Elk River, every fisherman’s dream.
Our Fernie hotel and resort is located on the southern edge of Fernie, on the west bank of the Elk River and just five minutes from the premier ski hill, Fernie Alpine Resort. For your convenience, the SnowPro Rentals shop is onsite at our hotel and converts to the headquarters of Mountain High Adventures during the summer months for a full-service Fernie experience. The highly-praised Tandoor & Grill Restaurant is located onsite at our hotel, as well as large aquatic centre with a waterslide, a dry sauna and year-round outdoor hot tub.
Winter Alpine Sports
Head out into pristine ski and snowboard conditions at the Fernie Alpine Resort ski hill, just five minutes from our hotel. Grab your gear at our onsite SnowPro Rental shop and head out for an amazing day on the slopes. If you crave more intense alpine adventure and virgin snow, ask our front desk about incredible heli-skiing and cat-skiing tours, try out snowmobiling, or test your skills at Nordic snow biking.
During the summer months, the SnowPro Rentals shop onsite at Fernie Stanford Waterslide Resort transforms in the headquarters of Mountain High Adventures, where you can organize an exhilarating Fernie white-water rafting trip on the Elk River. Or, you can avoid the rapids and take a scenic Elk River floats trip suitable for all ages. Of course, the great outdoors hosts a long list of other great recreational opportunities - check out the official summer guide on the Fernie tourism website for info.
Fishing is also a Fernie highlight during the summer months. Our hotel is located right on the Elk River at one of the Kootenay’s most renowned fly-fishing hotspots. The river is also one the world’s greatest trout fishing areas, with an abundance of rainbow, cutthroat, brown and bull trout. Ask our front desk to help arrange a Fernie B.C. fly fishing or Elk River trout fishing excursion. (Sidenote: Winter ice-fishing is also great in Fernie!)
