The Rocky Mountain town of Fernie BC has always been famous for its impressive skiing (and we’d also like to think the great accommodations at the Stanford Resort!). Now, thanks to the Fernie Brewing Company, the town is also famous for its great tasting beer! At this year’s 6th Annual Canadian Brewing Competition in Toronto ON, the local brewing company won 2 medals. This was the company’s first year entering the competition and the only brewery in BC outside of the Lower Mainland to win a medal.
The Annual Canadian Brewing Competition is considered the premiere contest for rating the quality of the Country’s beer. It is a blind tasting with 14 Certified Beer Judges who critique beer in over 20 categories. They judge the appearance, flavour, mouth-feel, aroma and overall impression when deciding on the best Canadian beer.
With 239 individual beers and 50 breweries entered in the competition, the independent Canadian owned Fernie Brewing Company sure made their mark! Their Rocky Mountain Genuine Lager was awarded Silver in the European Style Lager category and their First Trax Brown Ale won a Bronze metal in the Brown Ale category.
This growing Fernie brewery prides itself on the pure quality of their beer. They create small batches of ales and lagers using only all natural ingredients with no preservatives. The result is refreshing and distinctive beers full of flavour and aroma.
